Tonight, I have
decided to enjoy a rather delightful experience. This evening, we are
venturing to a new theater we recently heard about while chatting with some
friends in a local tavern here in London .
We quickly hurried to the theater from the bar. The theater seems
to be in the shape of a Globe, maybe symbolic for the world? As we enter
the gate, I noticed that air was humming with energy. Every man and woman
here is brimming with anticipation. As we make our way to our place, I
cannot help but marvel at the spectacular sites around me. There are
people everywhere, talking and laughing. From the ground to the upper
levels of balconies, the theater is basically full. The sculptures and
architecture are wonderful, with balconies separated by enormous columns and
all of it surrounded by a dome of great size. This beautiful dome is
filled with excitement for the upcoming masterpiece that our eyes are about to
behold. Once we arrived at the pit, a large space near to the stage, and
the cheapest seating available, we began to get ready for a show that has been
talked about widely among the friends I have that could scrape up a penny to
come see the show. Oh, it seems the play is about to start. The
play tonight is Romeo and Juliet, supposedly it is a tale about two forbidden
lovers, but I have heard that it is a tragedy so I am not certain that my
cheeks shall be dry by the end of the night. The actors here in the Globe
seem extremely talented; however, the aspect that sticks out to me the most is the
odd language, seemingly because the writer may have been from another area of
England, and the sharp contrasts presented in order to make a point stick to
the audience with blatant interpretation of Mr. Shakespeare's thoughts.
I, as part of the middle class in London ,
am in love with Shakespeare's witty plots as well as how he expresses inherent
human themes in his plays and stays true to them throughout the story. My
friends seem to not grasp the fullness of the plays as they stood and chatted
most of the time about petty rumors and gossip. I tried to focus on the
brilliance in front of me instead of trivial concerns. However, I am
delighted by the performance I just witnessed, I think another trip to the
tavern may be in order!
Hi Paul,
ReplyDeleteGood job on your first blog post! Your involved description of the Globe's architecture and atmosphere was very imagistic and evocative. I also liked how you inserted some thinly veiled humor into your response through your narrator's voice. Keep up the good work.
